Saturday morning I went over to the lab to pick up my test results. It was super busy, so I actually did have to wait a little longer this time, no April Fool's jokes.... but once I got home and figured out how to read them, I realized that I'm fine! I have lowish counts of iron and a few other vitamins.... which makes sense. I don't eat nearly as much meat as I should or am used to at home... and after getting sick a few times this winter, my body is probably just drained of everything I need to stay healthy!
Sooo, I made sure to eat a ham sandwich before going back out to read my book over by the castle. I picked a nice sunny bench to sit on and actually got some sun!! Woohoo sunshine and 70 degree weather! I felt like I needed to have on a pair of shorts!
When I got to Corinne's house later in the day, I showed her my results too, just to make sure I had read them right... and she said I had a petite anémie (a little anemia hehe). It sounds so cute, too bad it has made feel like crap for so long! Then Luc came over and said.... hmm maybe it's more of a mal du pays- homesickness. I said, yeah, probably a little of both:/ But, this did make me feel better- Corinne has been sick a lot this winter too... had the same flu I had, and her doctor told her that this year's flu was awful on immune systems.... everyone who has had it, has gotten sick again, and every illness seems to drag on. So it's not just me!
After the reading of the results (haha), Corinne asked if I wanted something to drink. She said they had a few sirops I could choose from. I knew this was something the French drank... but had never tried it before. It's just concentrated fruit juice- syrup, and you add sparkling water to it to make your own "soda." It was surprisingly tasty! Julien came in from a bike ride with two friends and they all had a "soda" too. They were shocked to learn we didn't really do this in America... but I explained that we had powders we added to flat water to make lemonade or tea.... or other fruit drinks.
Once we finished our drinks, it was au boulot- off to work for Julien and I. His friends double-cheek kissed their way out of the house and we spent an hour talking about Harry Potter. He didn't have any homework, so instead of giving him sentences or verbs to conjugate, I asked if he just wanted to talk about Harry Potter. He was like.... No- not really because I don't learn how to talk at school. I was like- well good thing you have me to help you learn to speak the language you're learning:) By the end, he was ready to go look up the Wizarding World Amusement park in Orlando to see how much a "real" wand would cost him lol.
While I was working with Julien, Corinne put together dinner so that all we had to do was pop the pizza in the oven and put the salad on the table. The two of them left, much more readily this time, to go out to eat and to go shopping. Their main living room tv died this week, so it was time for a new one! With the rents gone, the kids and I played some games, looked up funny youtube videos (I showed them this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqjWLCwZ0_8&feature=related and they cracked up- thankfully the babies speak neither English, nor French.... just baby talk lol), tried throwing ping pong balls into cups of water (after seeing a cool commercial with ping pong tricks), and made dinner.
For dinner we had salad with radishes, corn, and hard boiled eggs (which happens to be rich in iron). We had pizza with goat cheese and ham (it was delicious, believe me, I was skeptical too). We also had sausage links, which I wouldn't have normally eaten, but I was going with the "eat more meat" mentality. For dessert we had ice cream.... and they sure had a lot to choose from. Julien went into the basement to retrieve the 6 different flavors they had in their downstairs freezer.
After cleaning up and the kids taking their showers, we sat around the smaller tv in the smaller family room to watch the Simpson's. For some reason, they are always watching the Simpson's.... anytime I come over, I hear it in the background. I don't particularly like or dislike it.... I don't regularly watch it, but they're always referencing it or asking me questions about it. When the parents got home, they said more Simpson's? And they said, What??? Leensay lovessss the Simpson's. I just sort of laughed and thought oh well.
Before Luc drove me home, Corinne and Luc asked if I wanted to eat lunch with them on Sunday, April 17th. They said it would be our last Sunday together before they went to Marseille for Easter vacation. I thought- aww sad, they won't be here that last week I'm here at all! But then they asked how I was taking care of my apartment. I explained that the lady from the Mairie was coming 2 days before I left to do an inspection, but I wasn't sure if I'd get to stay there for the last 2 days or not. They sort of looked at each other and their calendar and said, well we'll probably come home on Wednesday, so you can spend the night here and we'll drive you to the airport in the morning on Thursday. I said that they were too nice, and didn't have to end their vacation early... but they said they'd need a break from their mothers and they'd go back down for the second week anyway. So that made me feel good- to know that they'd do that for me, and to know that at least for Wednesday night I don't have to worry about where I'm sleeping and what to do with my keys Thursday morning.... and taking a taxi with my over-stuffed bags!
As I was leaving, Lucie ran out to say, what about mes bisous? I bent to give her the double cheek kiss as the rest of the family laughed. They said, "What can we say- she's French and blond." I'm not really sure what their blond stereotypes are, but I get the French part:)
Here are some pictures of Saint-Priest in spring! Enjoy!
