The Fête des Lumières is HERE!!!

In all honesty, I have yet to see any lights associated with the Fête des Lumières.... but the FL excitement is in the air!

I started my morning with a nice video chat with Victor. I was online with him when the electrician came in.... I warned the guy that I was going to be talking to my computer and he was like, huh? I was like, yeah, my boyfriend's in the computer.... and he came around to see and he waved to him haha. After my chat, I took my laundry to the laundromat and had a nice leisurely morning to myself. Apparently, not many people do their laundry at 8am.

After dragging out the laundry process and taking a nice walk in the oddly warm weather we're having.... I came back to put away my laundry and to think of my next get-out-of-the-house scheme. I decided I could go sit and a read a book in the library for a while... and then grab a bite to eat.

So... I said à toute à l'heure (see you later) to the electrician and went across the street to the médiathèque. I had just returned a bunch of books on Switzerland and Italy, but I went to the same section to see if they had anymore and enjoyed a new travel book for about an hour. I learned that Switzerland basically has no military, they just have citizens trained and ready, with all guns/equipment kept at their own houses, should they be in need of a military (unlikely as they haven't been in war for 500 years). All Swiss are also required to have an abri, or bomb shelter. This came about during WWII and the cold war... today, few people keep their shelters fully stocked with anything but wine or ping pong tables (evidently these shelters make excellent wine cellars or children's play rooms). I also took note of the Swiss wines, specialty foods, and souvenirs (I probably could have figured out chocolate, watches, and knives on my own). I checked the book out so I would have something to read on the train. I can't believe our trip to Switzerland is only 10 days away!

I took a walk to the village and it is all a-buzz with excited children and adults running around, getting their errands done before the big to-do this evening. They were setting up carnival rides in the village center and light equipment at the castle. I'm glad I walked around the village today, because I've decided I don't really need to go over there before I go into Lyon. There's already so much carnival stuff set up in the little square, I can't imagine what it will be like with people!

I went to the chic little boulangerie in the village and got in the long lunch line. I was feeling rushed when deciding what to eat, so I didn't do a very good job explaining what I wanted in French. But in the end, I was given a ham and cheese sandwich, a water, and a choice of whatever desert I wanted (their set menu of sorts). It would be less stressful if they ever had what I wanted in mind, but somehow I always come up with something they don't have. It doesn't help that I'm not very consistent with which place I go for sandwiches. I should just stick to the one by my house where I know the lady. They all make different things and have different options on the set menu for the day. Anyway, I chose the first thing I saw for desert, a mille feuilles.
This translates to a thousand leaves or sheets.... kind of like a thousand thin layers of pastry. It was gooooood. And topped with a pretty layer of chocolate and filled with several layers of custard. I tried eating it in the park by the castle with my sandwich, but I decided I'd enjoy it more if I had a fork and a napkin. The fork didn't do me much good because the layers are kind of crunchy. So I closed the door to the living room/dining room (which I can do now that the electrician has moved my outlets) and I ate my mille feuilles without much ladylikeness.

Now I'm waiting, as patiently as possible, for monsieur zee electrician to be done for the day. I probably have a good 1-2 hours before he leaves. I just want to take a shower!!!

More later or tomorrow with real FL pictures!
