Day with my Dad:)

After my dad took a quick cat nap this afternoon and we both talked to my mom via video chat (yay computers), we headed into Lyon for a little touring. We went straight up the funicular to see the Fourvière Basilica and the view from atop the "praying hill" before the sun went down. It was a beautiful clear evening- we could even see Alps in the distance, plus all of Lyon with snow dusted roofs. We headed out of the cold and into the basilica, which fortunately for us was having a post-Christmas mass. This is one of my favorite church-insides, so it was cool to be able to see it full of people and in action. We stood and hummed along to "Hark the Herald" and my dad got a chance to marvel at the mosaicked walls and ornate decorations. He said, "Your mom would love this..." :-)

We left before getting too far into the service and went down into the crypt to see the large nativity scene. We headed back outside and towards the Roman ruins. Unfortunately, they are closed during the holiday season, so we didn't get to walk around in them (probably for the best as it was freezing cold, icy, and getting dark). We did get to see them from the bottom on our way to a funicular stop further down the hill.

Once back into the metro station, we hopped on the metro line that would take us towards the Perrache train station for dinner at Brasserie Georges. This is the place I went to lunch recently with my friends. We got there early, around 6, but this place, being the awesome place that it is, serves food non-stop throughout the day...so us Americans can eat our early dinners:) We had a delicious, and I mean absolutely mouth-watering ravioli for a first course. I had the scallop dish again for my main course, my dad had a steak (unfortunately not the best steak he's ever had, but the ravioli made up for it!), and we shared, what was translated into English, a crunchy, caramel buttery surprise. It was a dome shaped caramel buttery surprise for sure. It was very rich, so it was a good thing we shared it.... and then we laughed about the "crunchy dome" for a while afterward (I think we were both giddy from the sugar).

We paid the check (leaving no tip, because tip is always included in the bill here... my dad was shocked), froze our butts off walking to the tram stop, and eventually made it home by 8pm. My dad was fast asleep by 9:30. I'm probably going to head to bed here myself... I'm pooped... but still having fun playing with my new computer. I've uploaded pics from Switzerland, so hopefully I'll get a chance to post some before we head to Italy in 2 days.

Yay Steph is coming tomorrow! We'll have some time to tour before she gets here around 2:30, but I can't wait for another familiar face! Night night! Let's hope everything goes as smoothly flight wise for her too!

Reste cool:)
